SUFFER THE BOREDOM AT THANKSGIVING DINNER?

I am sure most of us who have a large hearing family and get to be invited for their thanksgiving dinner. You probably don't want to go because they probably aren't able to communicate with you since they don't know sign language but they tell you that family is important to be together on that day.

Today's Controversial Question:

Do we need to be polite to attend the dinner and suffer the ordeal of unable to communicate with anyone for a long time?

Shutdown State Schools for the Deaf?

Most state schools for the deaf are facing some of these issues:

1. Unqualified signing teachers who are protected by the union and can't be terminated.

2. Dumping ground for either mental ill deaf students with behavorial issues, deaf students with multi-disabilities or uncontrolled students that their parents want to get rid of.

3. Some older students or staff who are child molesters.

4. Some do not have bilingual system which their education system is flawed.

5. Reduction in class size due to epidemic of Cochlear implants.

6. No exposure to family values.

7. Run by the State's bureaucy system that does not receive any feedback or control from parents or deaf community in order to improve education system for students.

8. Run by audists or paternalists.

I am sure others would say "but it is important that we preserves the history of the school and give the opportunity for students to have better social life by communicating with each other"

CONTROVESIAL QUESTION OF THIS DAY:

Is it worth for these States to have school for the deaf where there may be other opportunties to improve the education system for students?

DEAF LEADERS OR NOT?

One interesting part of the Robert Johnson's letter to Board of Trustees during Gallaudet's Protest in October 2006, he quoted:"Early in my interations with deaf people, I began to hearof outrageous examples of physical and sexual abuse of children atthe hands of adults and other, older children in the school. In certain cases I watched as known child molesters were fetedand honored by the deaf community."

CONTROVESIAL QUESTION OF THIS DAY:
Should we look at the other way and forgive so called famous deaf leaders who have done physical and sexual abuse of children in the past?

VRS + DEAF PEOPLE = SUCKERS?

VRS Companies like Sorenson, CSDVRS, Hamilton, etc. makes millions of dollars in profit by having you to use their VRS. They only give a very small percentage of the profit back to the Deaf Community. No question that there is a need for better job placement services, educational workshops or social services for the deaf people across the country. Instead, hearing VRS owners have enjoyed their rich lifestyle with their huge profits.

CONTROVERSIAL QUESTION OF DAY:

Instead of using VRS to make hearing VRS owners rich, should deaf community set up their own VRS service as a non-profit organization so they can invest 100% of the revenues to create better life for deaf people?
